This is Platteville’s inaugural year participating in this global event. There will be a screening of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and, of course, Serenity. We are pretty sure that we are the smallest venue in the world participating. Let’s show them how generous and geeky we can be!
The event will kick off at 2:00pm on Sept. 21 at the Avalon Theater in downtown Platteville. The doors open at 1:30pm.
Tickets will be $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
Proceeds will go 75% to Equality Now and 25% to Family Advocates, Inc. Equality Now works for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women and girls around the world. Family Advocates is a nonprofit organization providing services for victims of sexual assault and family/partner abuse in Southwestern Wisconsin.
Every year Can’t Stop The Serenity has an auction on e-Bay as the last event of the year. All the money goes to Equality Now. This year we are fortunate to have the California Browncoats run the auction for us.
Fans and our sponsors have been remarkably generous in donating items for the auction. So much so that we have 47 Lots of great stuff. It runs the gamut from Firefly to Buffy to Star Trek to Xena and far too many to describe all of them here.
For instance, there are three double-sided movie posters of Much Ado About Nothing, donated by Lionsgate. Putting one up on your wall would be cool enough but one is signed by Joss Whedon, Tom Lenk, Clark (I’m not dead) Gregg, Alexis Denishof and Amy Acker.
There is a Jayne pack with a Ma Cobb knitted hat, a Jayne action figure and a Jaynestown “Hero of Canton” out-of-print poster signed by Adam Baldwin.
You can choose between two different The Avengers posters or pick up a copy of Titan Books “Still Flying” signed by Joss.
There are glossy photos signed by Jewel Staite, Alan Tudyk, Dichen Lachman and Felicia Day.
We put together Browncoat fanpacks which might have an Inara tea caddy or music from the Bedlam Bards or a Serenity Comic or some Firefly inspired earrings or a QMX money pack, etc. They are all different.
But we also have signed Buffy scripts from Jane Espenson, a Tshirt given only to Buffy crew members for the 100th episode “The Gift”, two rare Spike figures and other Buffy/Angel items.
Maybe you are a fan of Supernatural, or Stargate, the Vampire Diaries or Warehouse 13? We have lots of items from those shows as well. And if you aren’t a fan, they would make a great gift for someone!
The auction runs till noon Pacific, Tuesday July 26th. Go out there and win something!

Dr. Horrible will start shortly after 9pm once we have everyone seated with Serenity to follow.
Please Note: Market Square has always been very helpful with providing us with a venue for CSTS. They will be showing other movies at the same time as CSTS. Please try to keep noise in the lobby to a minimum while waiting to enter our theater so that others may enjoy their movies as much as we will ours.
